My advise in Cold War planes is this:

For Harriers, Phantoms, and Skyhawks go for HM.

For Mirages, either go for HM or Falcon Models. There are other manufactures but their quality is below average.

For MiGs, the only good quality manufacturer is HM but it has only MiG-21 and MiG-15. You may find MiG-29s in Witty Sky Guardians but they must be rare now as they stopped production. For more variety, check out other manufacturers but again their quality is below average. Same thing goes for the Nighthawks.

I agree with AM, that you are basically going to end up with a variety of manufactures in order to find the planes you want. If you visit this link you can see what happens when you narrow you search by plane types. We have over 1000 1:72 models available from about 30 different manufacturers, so it's really hard to say who is best because it depends on each individual collectors criteria. All the models list are diecast with the exception of the Easy Model brand. These are plastic.

Thanks, Ahmed.  I am a strange guy.  I would like to collect cold war jet fighters/bombers that are either discontinued or that are still in service.  Thus, Harriers, Phantoms, Skyhawks, Nighthawks, Mirages, MIGs, etc.  I am looking for good quality diecast ones.  The scale can be 1:72 or it can be a little bit bigger or smaller.

Sometimes it is not about all of that and it is just about the plane itself. If you want a model of a Su-35 for instance and you cant find it except in IXO you will buy it.

Depends on what you are looking for in terms of:

1- Category i.e. modern, wwii, etc.
2- Scale
3- Material diecast or plastic
4- Quality

Every criteria has its makers.

Steve, thanks for your input sir.  I have definitely become a bigger fan of military planes.  Any other producers in the military diecast plane market?  Or is Hobby Master the only one?

Both Gemini and Hobby Master make excellent 1:72 scale models with very comparable detail. The big difference is in selection. Gemini has only made a very few models in this scale (about 20) and probably have discontinued the line. Hobby Master is the strongest player in this market with many 100s of releases and many more coming.

I do not own any Gemini Aces models. But judging from very detailed pictures and in comparison to similar HM models i own (say for the F-15E), the level of details offered by HM surely wins. I ct judge quality but i can judge the value-for-money. Gemini are too expensive and they dt compete with HM in military aviation. The same can be said about HM in civil av. Gemini 200 and jets surely wins.

Have you ever owned a Gemini warplane? How does the quality compare?
