Dans le Ciel de France, Histoire dela JG2 "Richthofen" tome 5 - 1944, by Erik Moombeck, ASBL La porte d'Hoves ¨Publ.
This 5th volume covers with great details the "Richthofen" history from the 1st January 1944 til its definitive departure from the French ground at the end of August same year. This time lapse was highly marked by deadly air fights in the context of the D-Day préparatives and realisation. Encountering defavourable battle of wills against Allied Air Forces, Luftwaffe pilots' tenacity and courage were not sufficent enough to oppose a solid resistance in the skies of the occupied France. Both Allied and German aviations suffered heavy losses, as for the Jagdgeschwader 2 which, in only some monthes, lost 2 Kommodores and 2 Kommandeurs, the 4 of them totalizing some 400 kills.
