"SUPERMODELNATION"- The Art of bringing Models to Life

Hi Guys,

This is my first Blog Post. I'm the humble Maisto Tailwinds starter to this forum. I have been working on this project for the last few months. It's new and it's different and maybe not suited to everybody's taste.

Supermodelnation (a combination of "super", "model" and "animation") is the term I've coined to describe my recent work which attempts to bring my model diorama airfield and its few planes to life through live motion movie (no stop motion, no CGI!!!)

A slightly tongue in cheek poke at the master- Gerry Anderson's "Supermarionation". Very few model makers/collectors (I'm not claiming to be either) have attempted this. In fact checking online, I was surprised how few people have actually tried it. For me it just seemed to make sense. Hard work to arrange and edit, but worth the effort I think. Maybe with my current models being so inexpensive, the rough handling and occasional dropping or scraping during the filming process does not cause your heart to skip a beat as it would if the more expensive Gemini, Corgi, Century Wings etc collections were used!

With time i intend to replace my entire Tailwinds fleet with better more serious models on my airfield. Not sure if the movie making approach will thereafter be continued. However for now I'm just having fun and I hope to showcase my model military airfield through a short two-part movie (still finalising the shooting). I could have just posted photos but a film just seemed more cool.

I have made a trailer teaser and posted same on YouTube. Please see the link below to view and please let me know your thoughts or comments (Be kind, this is my first model AND first film attempt). Im sure there is a way to embed on this site but havent figured it yet.

Model Military Airfield- Project: Classified, Trailer

I note this site has a Model Airport Group but the last activity is as far back as July 2012 and a Diorama Group but their last activity is Nov 2012. Not sure if its the norm for these Groups to have long inactive periods. I would have targeted their members specifically with this new work. I hope to apply to join thse groups soon, if they are still operating.

Following the two-part movie i will present a "making of the airfield" slideshow film so you get a 'behind the scenes' view of how i put things together. Hope you like the trailer. Happy viewing.
